Mouse navigation 

To view the content of a mapanno simply hover your mouse over the visual tags to display content - 'click' on the tag to permantly open the content.

Keyboard navigation 

You can also navigate through the tags using the keys B(back) and N(next). Each of the tags content will be displayed in the order that the author intended.

Button navigation 

Since mapanno content is authored by individual authors some of the features explained below may not apply, similarly you may get more features than are described here! Navigation buttons that may appear include:
  • Tags - opens/closes all the tag content in a single click.
  • Expand - expands all the content underneath the main mapanno which is useful for printing content.
  • License - a creative commons licencse that applys to the content being viewed.
  • ? - by default links to this page for help viewing the mapanno, it may however take you to a custom page.

  • Print - this will take you to a page that contains the mapanno content which is useful if you require a 'clean' print that is not cluttered with other page elements.
  • Close - as it says on the tin!

Enabling javascript 

To fully interact with mapanno content - javascript needs to be enabled in your browser settings. How to do this varies depending on your browser model and version. Below are the steps required for the most common browsers, if you cannot find your browser then you may need to do a search using a search engine such as google for 'enable javascript your browser name'.

If after enabling javascript you still cannot access content then the next place to look is at your internet security software. Since the list of internet security software is extensive the best advice would be to go to the vendors website and do a search for enabling javascript if you cannot figure out how to do it by looking at the software.

  1. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
  2. Choose 'Options'
  3. Choose 'Web Features' from the left navigation panel
  4. Select the checkbox next to 'Enable JavaScript' and click 'OK'

Mozilla Firefox 1.5

  1. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
  2. Choose 'Options'
  3. Choose 'Content' from the top navigation panel
  4. Select the checkbox next to 'Enable JavaScript' and click 'OK'

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

  1. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
  2. Choose 'Internet Options'
  3. Click the 'Security' tab
  4. Click 'Custom Level'
  5. Scroll down until you see the section labelled 'Scripting'
  6. Under 'Active Scripting', select 'Enable' and click 'OK'

Netscape Browser 8.1.2

  1. Select 'Edit' from the top menu
  2. Choose 'Preferences'
  3. Choose 'Advanced'
  4. Choose 'Scripts & Plugins'
  5. Select the 'Enable JavaScript' checkbox and click 'OK'

Apple Safari

  1. Select 'Safari' from the top menu
  2. Choose 'Preferences'
  3. Choose 'Security'
  4. Select the checkbox next to 'Enable JavaScript'

Browser compatibility - viewing mapanno requires an up-to-date browser such as the above. It is advised you keep your browser up-to-date both for security and viewing content such as mapanno.
